Technical consultation summary

Cuttlefish are targeted by pots inshore in Cornish waters, a fishery which on its own is very selective and sustainable however in winter months cuttles are also heavily fished offshore by trawlers putting pressure on the stocks. No accurate stock information is available but landings shows huge boom and bust patterns due to a combination of natural fluctuation in recruitment and influenced by unregulated trawling for this highly valuable non quota species. Cuttlefish are part of the non Quota FMP and there is talk of bringing in management but none has been implemented to date.
