Technical consultation summary

MMO have now harmonised Minimum Landing Size outside 6nm to 110 in ICES area 7 in line with CIFCA restrictions. They have also put in place a winter closed season, although this has little biological rationale, it is likely to reduce effort by only 5-10%. Better management is still urgently required. Stock score improved due to high current population from 1 - 0.75 and management score improves but Harvest control strategy is needed to further improve sustainability of this important fishery for long term.
