Technical consultation summary
MMO have now harmonised MLS outside 6nm to 110 in ICES area 7 in line with CIFCA restrictions. They have also put in place a winter closed season, although this has little biological rationale, it is likely to reduce effort by only 5-10%. Better management is still urgently required. Stock score improved due to high current population and increased landings and management score improves but Harvest control strategy is needed to further improve sustainability of this important fishery for long term.
