This stock is data limited. There is concern for fishing pressure as fishing is above FMSY, and no concern for biomass, as landings per unit effort are above the average. There are pot limits in place for Shetland creel fisheries but more management is needed to improve the stock of European lobster. It is illegal to land berried lobster in Shetland. There are pot limits in place for Shetland creel fisheries but more management is needed to improve the stock of European lobster. Potting, or creeling, for European lobster, has minimal impact on the surrounding environment but may result in the entanglement of whales in this area. Entanglement rates in the Shetland creel fisheries are lower than on the west coast, however, there has been an estimated 27 minke whale and 18 humpback whale entanglements from 2009-2019.
