Technical consultation summary
Biomass above MSY and fishing pressure below, this means stock score has changed to 0.25. It is worth noting that although above MSY, biomass was declining from ICES data. Still very little known about stocks. ICES recommend no more than 86 tonnes and recommend 30% reduction in landings. IUCN is near threatened and declining from 2006. Managed through mixed species ray TAC, hard to avoid by catch. For more information about this rating please visit: http://www.cornwallgoodseafoodguide.org.uk/fish-guide/small-eyed-ray.php
How we worked out this Rating
Smalleyed ray in the Bristol Channel and Celtic Sea (North) is not overfished or subject to overfishing.A survey biomass index has been used as an indicator of how the stock is doing. In 2021, the stock size indicator declined but it remains above the MSY Btrigger proxy (Itrigger).Fishing pressure is just below the FMSY proxy.ICES advises that when the MSY approach is applied, landings should be no more than 86 tonnes in each of the years 2023 and 2024.
