Sandilands Great British Beach Clean

Join us at Sandilands for the Great British Beach Clean and help protect local marine life along the Lincolnshire coast. Together, we can help care for this special stretch of coastline and keep the sea safer for wildlife this summer. Every piece of litter collected, from washed-up plastic to tiny fragments hidden in the sand, helps make a difference. We’ll also be gathering important data for the Marine Conservation Society, helping build a clearer picture of coastal litter and supporting campaigns for cleaner, healthier seas. We’ll provide gloves, bags and litter-pickers, but you’re very welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear so you can stay comfortable while helping care for Sandilands’ shoreline.

Winter Beach Clean - Pegwell Bay

This Winter Beach Clean will take place on the beach close to the white cliffs within the Sandwich & Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve. The event lasts for 2 hours and is open to all to join in.  We will be both monitoring beach litter and also cleaning the beach.  Children have to be supervised by a responsible adult.  Litter sticks, hoops, and bags are provided.  If you need gloves, please bring your own garden gloves; and wear appropriate clothing for weather on the day (windproof/rainproof if windy &/or raining) & tough footwear for walking on the beach.    Please also bring along your own water bottle, or refreshment, to quench your thirst!  Please Note:  unfortunately the nearby picnic site 'cafe' & 'toilets' are CLOSED during the winter months.  Detailed access directions to the beach:  From Viking Ship picnic site   >> walk to the north-east corner of the picnic site (Ramsgate direction), then   >> along a footpath adjacent to a field to a road, then  >> turn right & walk down the (former hoverport access) road & at the bottom  >>  turn round to the left around the trees to the start of the sandy beach (above the saltmarsh/mudflats). The Thanet Coast Project (https://www.thanetcoast.org.uk/) runs this event - sometimes with the Kent Wildlife Trust and Bird Wise East Kent present - so that you can ask your questions about the bird life of this National Nature Reserve.
