Rating summary

Albacore tuna in the north Atlantic Ocean is abundant and not subject to overfishing. Management of north Atlantic albacore follows scientific advice and appears to be well enforced. This component of the fishery is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council, and therefore has increased monitoring and reporting requirements. However, observer coverage is low, and this could affect the accuracy of information on catch and bycatch. Some albacore tuna in the north Atlantic are caught by pole & line fishing. This is a generally low-impact method.Rating last updated January 2024.
