Herring
Clupea harengus
Also known as: Sild
Overview
Herring sustainability varies a lot. Always check the label to find out where it was caught. Herring is OK – needs improvement if caught in the North Sea by drift nets or from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified pelagic trawls. Fish to Avoid include herring from the Baltic Sea (West), Irish Sea (South), and southern UK.
