Brown crab
Cancer pagurus
Also known as: Chancre crab, Edible crab
Overview
Brown crab sustainability varies. The Best Choice is Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified from Shetland. Avoid brown crab caught on the West Coast of Scotland. All other brown crabs are OK, but improvements are needed. Brown crab is often sold in supermarkets as fresh picked meat or pâté, and may also be sold whole or dressed by fishmongers.
