Overview

King prawns’ sustainability varies. The Best Choice is king prawns that are certified Organic or farmed using RAS closed systems. Look out for other eco-labels on products, including Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), Global Seafood Alliance Best Aquaculture Practice (GSA BAP 2*, 3*, 4*) and GLOBALG.A.P. certification. Uncertified King prawns farmed in Indonesia, Vietnam and India are Fish to Avoid. Check with your retailer to make sure you are buying certified prawns. King prawns are widely available in UK supermarkets, fishmongers, and seafood restaurants. They come in various forms, including fresh (raw or cooked), frozen, and in processed products like ready meals and fish cakes.
